WILSON'S BOOT CONSTRUCTION
You don't have to be a working cowboy to appreciate our boots, but it does help. We use the heavier leather for our work boots. Notice on the high counter and tongue the crown like shape - that is actually the W for Wilson Boots - it is our trademark.
Wilson actually developed the spur shelf - we put it on all our boots - some customers prefer a large shelf - some medium and some want it shaved down as much as possible.
With the full welt as shown (white stitching that runs back to the side seam) you have the insole, midsole, & the outer sole. If you choose the half welt, the stitching ends where the arch sets in, and the midsole is eliminated. It lightens the boot and gives it a dressier look.
The steel shank is built up above and below with leather strips. It helps to protect that shank from breaking - I won't say it never breaks, but it is rarely done. The arches are wooden pegged - unless you go with a neoprene sole. Our heels are made with stacked leather. Our boots can be re-soled and heeled many times over.
Generally a working cowboy will get 8 - 12 years wear with our boots - we have some customers who have had their boots for over 30 years.
It is important to nourish the leather to help prevent rot. There are several good products. If you do use Neatsfoot Oil make sure you only use 100% Pure - the compound has ingredients that will actually break down the leather.
TOES & HEELS
The full round toe is the typical cowboy toe. We also offer a medium full round as well as a wide full round. The pointed toe or narrow round is as narrow as we go with the toe boxes that we use. If you are looking for the cockroach killer toe you will have to shop elsewhere. This requires a plastic toe box - we just do not go there. The K toe is 3/4" across, and we can do these in 1/4" increments. In other words - 3/4", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", and our widest square toe, 1 3/4".
All our boots come with a spur shelf, which you can get in large, medium and small.
Our tallest heel is the riding heel which is 2 1/4". The combination heel is 2", the walking heel is 1 3/4", and our low block heel is 1 1/2". Due to the lasts we use this is as low as we can go.
We make boots from size 3 to 15. AA to EEE. Because we use men's lasts, a woman's boot may be 1 - 2 sizes smaller. For example if you wear a 7 in women's you could be anywhere from a 5 to a 6 with our last.
To ensure a proper fit, I cannot stress enough how important a good foot tracing is, combined with the additional measurements. If you have any questions on proper foot measurement, please call us!
